Overview
Not a framing hammer, this Estwing is a small tack hammer with a magnetic style head that holds a tack for the first tap. The head is forged alloy steel, and the grip is wood.
A magnetic head lets one hand hold a tack and strike it, which suits upholstery and trim work. The hammer is light and short. The listing does not give head face size or handle length separately.
Who it's for
A craftsperson setting tacks and small nails gets control and a magnetic hold in a light hammer. Anyone driving full-size nails needs a heavier claw hammer.
Pros and cons
- Magnetic head for tacks
- Forged alloy steel head
- Light and easy to control
- Too light for framing work
- Head face size not listed
- Wood grip can crack if misused
- Warranty terms absent
Performance notes
A light head concentrates a small blow on a tack, and the magnet holds it in place while it is started. A wooden grip absorbs some shock. Heavy nails need more mass than this hammer offers.
