Overview
Trimming wood on a job site is the work this Irwin chisel set is meant for, pairing alloy steel blades and bevel edges with acetate or ProTouch grip handles. The listing counts three pieces.
A matched trio from a familiar hand tool brand is the reason to buy. What the page leaves out is the width of each blade and whether the handles are struck-end rated.
Who it's for
A jobsite user fitting hinges, trimming framing or cleaning up joints. The grips are listed in two possible styles, so the exact one may vary. Furniture makers who want a graduated set should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Alloy steel blades
- Bevel edge profile
- Three chisels in one set
- Comfort grip handle option
- Blade widths not listed
- Handle type may vary
- Striking rating unclear
Performance notes
A bevel edge lets the blade reach into corners of joints, and alloy steel holds an edge through repeated cuts. Handle material affects shock absorption when the chisel is tapped. Sharpness out of the box, not stated, governs how clean the first cuts are.
