Overview
Carrying a digital Brix reading to a field, a workshop or a lab bench is the job of the Atago 3840, a handheld unit small enough for a pocket. The PAL is described as a completely new and redesigned instrument.
The PAL line is presented as a redesign of the traditional refractometer, with a compact size built for carrying. The limit is thin listing detail: resolution, temperature compensation and power source are all missing.
Who it's for
Someone who measures sugar content on the move, indoors or outdoors, and values a small digital unit. Buyers who need documented accuracy, sample volume or a protective case should confirm those details with the seller first.
Pros and cons
- Pocket-size, easy to carry
- Wide Brix range
- Usable indoors and outdoors
- Accuracy and resolution not listed
- Sparse listing, few specifications
- Brix scale only per the listing
Performance notes
The range runs from zero to a high Brix percentage, which spans dilute through very concentrated samples. The listing does not say how the sample is loaded, how temperature is compensated or how long a reading takes, so those points should be checked before relying on it for critical work.
