Overview
An oak barrel fitted with a bung and a spigot lets spirits, wine or cocktails rest in wood at home scale. The wood stand holds the barrel for pouring, and the kit adds storing tablets and a guidebook.
A compact way to try barrel aging without committing to a large cask. The kit includes the parts needed to fill and pour. Inside preparation, such as char level, is not described.
Who it's for
Hobby distillers, cocktail makers and winemakers who want to age a small amount in oak. People who need a full-size cask, or a stated char level, should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Oak barrel construction
- Stand, bung and spigot included
- Storing tablets included
- Guide book included
- Char level not listed
- Small volume only
- Warranty term is brief
Performance notes
Liquid in contact with oak picks up flavor from the wood, and a small barrel has a high wood-to-liquid ratio. Aging speed therefore depends on the barrel size, how full it is and how long it rests. The listing gives no timings.
