Overview
The AD310 is a no-frills OBD II code reader that plugs into the diagnostic port to tell you why a check engine light came on, then lets you clear the code once the issue is fixed. It draws power from the vehicle itself, so no batteries or charging are needed.
It is limited to emission-system diagnostics on OBD II vehicles from 1996 or newer; it will not read ABS, airbag, or other non-emission systems, and it cannot work at all on an OBD I vehicle even with an adapter. That narrow focus is also why it stays simple to operate.
- Reads and clears check engine emission codes
- Covers all major OBD II protocols including CAN
- No batteries, charger, or subscription needed
- Compact 8.9 x 6.9 x 1.4 inch, 12 oz body
Who it's for
Owners who just want to know what a check engine light means before deciding whether a shop visit is needed. Not for anyone needing ABS, airbag, or transmission diagnostics, which this model does not cover.
Strengths and trade-offs
Drawn from this product's published specifications.
- No subscription or app account required
- Powers itself from the vehicle's OBD port
- Compact and light at 12 ounces
- Emission codes only, no ABS or airbag reading
- Will not work on pre-1996 OBD I vehicles
- No live app connectivity like Bluetooth scanners
Performance notes
It supports the major OBD II protocols (KWP2000, J1850 VPW, ISO9141, J1850 PWM, and CAN), which covers most 1996-and-newer US, European, and Asian vehicles. The 2.5 foot cable and compact body are built to survive being dropped in a footwell during use.
