Overview
A workshop or auto bay with a shop air line is where this palm ratchet earns its place. It uses compressed air to turn a fixed square drive, and its small body fits in the hand and into spots a standard ratchet cannot reach.
The reason to consider it is speed: air drive turns small fasteners faster than a hand ratchet and without arm effort. The limitation is dependence on an air compressor and hose, none of which come with the tool.
Who it's for
Mechanics who disassemble interiors, dash panels or engine covers often will see time saved on small bolts. People without a compressor, or those who need a larger drive for heavy bolts, will not get use from it.
Pros and cons
- Air drive spares the wrist
- Small palm-sized body
- Alloy steel construction
- Fixed square drive
- Needs compressed air supply
- Air fitting and hose not listed
- Torque rating not listed
- Small drive size only
Performance notes
Air pressure and flow set how quickly the drive turns and how much it can break loose, so a weak compressor or a long narrow hose reduces output. The palm shape puts the hand over the tool, which gives control but limits leverage. For tight final tightening, finish with a hand torque tool.
