Overview

A patio owner gets an oscillating pedestal fan that can also mist: connect it to a standard garden hose and fine mist evaporates in the airflow to cool the area. Without the hose it runs as a plain fan, and the fan angle adjusts to aim air and mist.

Wide-angle oscillation and strong airflow let one fan cover a deck or seating area, and the mist adds evaporative cooling on hot dry days. A GFCI plug is built in for use around water. The limitation is that it needs both an outlet and a hose, so placement is tied to both.

Airflow from the fan moves air across the seating area, and oscillation spreads it over a wide angle. When a hose is connected, nozzles release fine mist that evaporates in the moving air and carries heat away, which works well only when the air is dry enough to absorb the water. Humid days reduce that effect, so the fan alone does the work.
