Overview
O'Brien builds these Vortex combo skis wide so that deep water starts come easier and carving turns feel natural. The extra surface area reduces drag, which lets a skier ride at lower boat speed with less effort.
The reason to buy is a forgiving, wide-body shape that suits intermediate skiers and slower boats. The limit is missing hardware detail, since the listing says nothing about bindings, fins or adjustability beyond the size range.
Who it's for
Adult skiers on a pair of combo skis, whether for family days or learning to carve. Racers and advanced skiers who want a thin, fast ski should consider a different shape.
Pros and cons
- Wide body for stable starts
- Lower boat speed needed
- Fits a wide size range
- One year warranty
- Binding details not listed
- Fin setup not described
- Heavy at its listed weight
Performance notes
A wider ski has more surface area, which reduces drag and lifts the skier at lower speeds, easing deep water starts. The trade is less edge hold than a narrow ski at high speed. Stance and boat speed shape how it carves.
