Overview
Paper Mate shapes these pencils with a triangular barrel that guides small fingers into position as handwriting develops. Thick lead is meant to stand up to heavy-handed pressure, and a refill set and erasers come along.
The barrel shape and thick lead are designed for young learners, which makes this a school start kit more than an adult pencil. Colorful barrels help children tell pencils apart. Writing is bold, not fine, so older students may find it clumsy.
Who it's for
Parents and teachers helping young learners build a correct grip will use the shape and the spare supplies. A pack of several covers home and classroom. Teens and adults with fine writing needs should look at a thinner lead.
Pros and cons
- Triangle barrel guides finger placement
- Thick lead resists breakage
- Refill lead set included
- Fun barrel colors
- Thick line, not fine
- Aimed at young learners
- Refill amount not described
Performance notes
The three sided barrel gives fingers a natural resting place, which is how it encourages proper placement. Thick lead has more material in each stroke, so it resists snapping under heavy pressure. A second set of lead plus extra erasers stretches a pack through the school year.
