Overview
A PCIe DAC and headphone amplifier sit on this Sound Blaster, and an Audio Control Module gives you a knob and jacks on the desk. The card slots into a Windows desktop and outputs surround audio in a multichannel layout.
Hi-res audio support and the headphone amp are the reason to buy it for a gaming PC with good headphones or speakers. The limit is platform: the listing names Windows and a desktop slot, and it does not detail ports.
Who it's for
PC gamers and music listeners who want better analog audio than the motherboard output will use the amp and control module. Laptop and console players need an external device instead.
Pros and cons
- Hi-res sample rate support
- Audio Control Module included
- Surround channel layout
- High signal to noise ratio
- Needs a free PCIe slot
- Windows only listed
- Full port list not given
Performance notes
A dedicated DAC moves digital to analog conversion off the noisy motherboard, which is what the signal to noise figure describes. The headphone amplifier drives higher impedance headphones better than a typical onboard jack. Results depend on source files and the speakers or headphones attached.
