Overview
Radio hobbyists who want a pocketable receiver get AM, FM and shortwave tuning in a compact leather-wrapped body with an LCD. Single sideband mode and a numeric entry for meter bands round out the tuning.
The extra tuning modes are the reason to buy it for shortwave listening away from home. The limit is detail: sensitivity, speaker size and antenna details are not in the listing.
Who it's for
Shortwave and amateur radio listeners who want a small receiver to carry will use the tuning options. Casual listeners who only need local FM can use almost any radio instead.
Pros and cons
- Single sideband mode
- Direct key-in for meter bands
- AM, FM and shortwave coverage
- Compact leather body
- Battery powered only listed
- Antenna details not given
- Weight entry looks wrong
Performance notes
Single sideband demodulation lets the radio decode amateur and utility signals that ordinary AM tuning cannot. Fine tuning steps decide how cleanly a station locks in. Reception on shortwave depends heavily on antenna length, location and time of day.
