Overview
CCM builds the Tacks 550 youth skate with a mesh skin boot, a stiff quarter package and a footbed sized for small feet. The CCM SpeedBlade is a steel blade on a raised holder, and the eyelets help children lace up.
A child who is still learning to tie skates gets simple hook eyelets, padded tongue protection and a support structure in the quarter package. The limitation is the fixed blade and the single size shown here.
Who it's for
Parents buying a first or second pair for a young hockey player in the youth size range. Older skaters, or families who want to swap blades, should check other skates.
Pros and cons
- Easy to tie hook eyelets
- Mesh skin durable surface
- Felt tongue with extra foam
- Footbed made for small feet
- Blade is not replaceable
- Single size listed
- Care instructions not listed
Performance notes
Stiffness comes from the quarter package in the upper, while the elevated holder and attack angle of the SpeedBlade help manoeuvrability and speed. The asymmetric tongue is cut to follow the foot and ease pressure points.
