Best OverallA mid-size gas chainsaw for pruning, yard cleanup and firewood. The listing names only the saw and a manual, so fuel, oil and a sharpening kit are separate buys.
A full-size gas chainsaw for firewood, land clearing and larger limbs, with easy-start and low-vibration features. It needs a fuel mix and regular chain maintenance, as any two-stroke saw does.
A light gas chainsaw for limbing and yard cleanup, with easy-start controls and an inertia chain brake. The description calls it cordless, but the power source is gas.
A high-power cordless chainsaw sold as a bare tool, so a battery and charger must come separately. The weight in the listing looks like a data error and is not used here.
Popular PickA cordless pruning chainsaw from Dewalt, sold as a bare tool. It needs a compatible 20V battery and charger bought separately.
A one-hand cordless mini chainsaw for trimming branches and cutting small wood, sold with a spare battery. The listing leaves out battery capacity, voltage and runtime.
A handheld cordless mini chainsaw for trimming small branches and cutting small wood. The included list names only the saw, so battery and charger details need confirming.
A light cordless saw for trimming branches and small wood, with two bar lengths and two batteries in a case. It is a pruning tool, not a felling saw.
A light cordless mini saw with an auto oiler for pruning and small wood. Specs are thin, so confirm the battery details and what ships in the box.

A complete cordless mini chainsaw kit with two batteries, spare chains and safety gear. Weight and warranty terms are not listed.

A compact, one-hand pruning saw for light branch work around the yard, not a substitute for a full-size chainsaw on thick wood or long sessions.

This 16-inch cordless saw delivers gas-saw cutting power for routine yard and firewood work, with auto-oiling and tool-free tensioning that spare you the usual gas-saw upkeep.
A 24-volt cordless mini chainsaw weighing 3.4 pounds with the battery installed, built around a brushless motor and a 6 inch bar for small limbs and light pruning.
A lightweight, affordable gas chainsaw for pruning and light felling work, with the usual small-engine caveat that first startup can take patience.
A compact, brushless pruning saw that makes the most sense for households already invested in Ryobi's 18V battery system.

A listing appears only when it has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating, and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out, while every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. The ones that pass are ordered by how many people search for that brand and model each month; review counts only break ties.
Chainsaws range from compact pruning saws for small branches to larger saws for cutting logs and heavier limbs; the first decision is how much saw your regular cutting actually requires. Start with the size of the branches and logs you normally cut.
Use the chain length filter as a starting point for maneuverability, then confirm the actual guide bar length in the listing. Among the 16 products that list chain length, most fall between 6 and 18 inches, and 9 inches is typical. A shorter guide bar is easier to position in crowded growth, while a longer bar extends farther across a log but needs more clearance around the cut. Check any manufacturer guidance on cutting capacity against the branches and logs you normally handle; advertised length alone cannot tell you whether a saw suits those tasks. Weight matters alongside reach: compare ready-to-cut weights, including the battery or fuel where applicable, because a bare-tool figure understates what you will hold. For repeated pruning, assess the handle arrangement and prescribed grip as well as the listed weight; compact dimensions do not make one-handed operation appropriate.
Choose the power source around where and how long you cut. Corded electric saws suit work within an approved outdoor extension lead’s reach, but routing the lead clear of the cutting area adds a constraint. Battery saws remove that tether, though runtime changes with wood hardness, cut size and battery capacity; for extended sessions, check whether a compatible spare battery and charger are supplied or sold separately. Petrol saws allow refueling away from electrical power, with engine servicing and the specified fuel preparation becoming part of ownership. Also compare chain adjustment systems: frequent cutting makes accessible tension adjustment useful, but tool-free adjustment still requires the tension checks described in the manual.
Before buying, check the manufacturer’s intended uses and whether the saw has a chain brake, hand guards and a start lockout; safety features vary, particularly on compact pruning saws. Establish which protective equipment the manual requires and whether any is supplied. For upkeep, check whether chain lubrication uses a reservoir or requires direct oil application, and whether suitable chain oil is included. Replacement chains must match the saw’s specified pitch, gauge and drive-link count, so confirm those details and replacement availability before relying on a chain-length description.
