Overview
The NOCO GENIUS5 is a 5-amp smart charger for 6-volt and 12-volt lead-acid and lithium batteries up to 120Ah, built to charge, maintain and desulfate rather than just trickle-feed. Suited to owners with one or two vehicles who want to leave a battery connected for months.
It sits above NOCO's smaller GENIUS2 in output, so it clears a larger battery faster while still being gentle enough for a motorcycle or ATV battery left over winter. The desulfator and Force Mode are there for batteries that have already gone flat or sulfated, not as routine settings. Ambient-temperature compensation adjusts the charge rate rather than applying a flat voltage regardless of climate.
- 34 percent smaller and about 65 percent more power than the older G3500
- 72-inch AC cable and 80-inch DC cable with clamps and eyelet terminals
- 3-year warranty, designed in the USA
- Works on lead-acid (wet, gel, AGM) and lithium (LiFePO4) chemistries
Who it's for
Suits anyone maintaining a car, truck, RV, boat or seasonal-use vehicle battery through storage, plus AGM, gel and lithium (LiFePO4) owners who need a charger rated for their chemistry. Less useful for someone who only needs an occasional quick top-up and never leaves a battery unattended.
Strengths and trade-offs
Drawn from this product's published specifications.
- Rated for both lead-acid and lithium (LiFePO4) batteries
- Force Mode can recover batteries down to zero volts
- Temperature compensation adjusts charging for the season
- Includes mounting bracket and eyelet terminals for a permanent setup
- 5A charge rate is modest for large batteries
- Rated to 120 amp-hours, not sized for bigger truck or RV battery banks
Performance notes
The thermal sensor reads ambient temperature and adjusts charge voltage so the unit doesn't overcharge in heat or undercharge in cold, rather than applying one fixed profile year round. Force Mode lets the charger push current into a battery below the voltage it would normally detect as chargeable, which is the difference between this and a basic trickle charger when a battery has gone fully flat. The pulse-charging desulfation step targets plate sulfation and acid stratification over repeated cycles rather than a single pass.

Questions about the Noco GENIUS5
Common buyer questions answered straight from the product spec data - no fluff, no "it depends".
What batteries does the NOCO GENIUS5 charge?
It charges and maintains 6-volt and 12-volt lead-acid batteries (wet, gel, AGM, SLA, VRLA) and 12-volt lithium (LiFePO4) batteries up to about 120 amp-hours, including deep-cycle, marine and powersport batteries.
Can the GENIUS5 revive a completely dead battery?
Its Force Mode is designed to manually charge batteries down to zero volts, and the charger can begin charging from batteries as low as 1 volt without switching modes.
Can I leave the GENIUS5 connected to a battery long term?
Yes, it is built as a maintainer as well as a charger, monitoring the battery and switching to upkeep mode so it can stay connected indefinitely without overcharging.
