Overview
Where the mouse stays put, this Kensington Orbit moves the cursor with a ball under your fingers. A scroll ring surrounds the ball, two buttons sit at the front, and a wrist rest comes in the box. The cable plugs into a USB port.
Stationary use and an included wrist rest are the reason to choose it for people who want less arm movement. The limit is the button count and the listing detail: only two buttons are listed, and programmable buttons are mentioned without a number.
Who it's for
Office workers and left or right hand users who want to reduce arm travel will use this ambidextrous design. People who need lots of extra buttons or a wireless link should look at other trackballs.
Pros and cons
- Scroll ring around the ball
- Wrist rest included
- Lightweight plastic body
- Only two buttons
- Wired connection only
- Programmable button count unclear
Performance notes
An optical sensor reads the ball rotation, so the cursor moves while the body stays still. The scroll ring turns to scroll pages without a separate wheel. Ball cleanliness decides how smoothly it tracks over time.
