Overview
Not a fairway wood or an iron, this Callaway Mavrik 22 is a hybrid with a graphite shaft and a synthetic rubber grip. Callaway lists Jailbreak, Flash Face and Face Cup technologies for launch and ball speed.
A hybrid fits the gap between long irons and woods for golfers who want help launching shots, and the forgiveness level is listed as high. The listing includes a headcover, and offers little about head size or adjustability.
Who it's for
Mid-handicap golfers filling a gap in the bag with a forgiving hybrid and a regular flex shaft. Left-handed players and those who need a different loft or stiffer flex should choose another configuration.
Pros and cons
- High forgiveness level listed
- Graphite shaft for lighter swing weight
- Several face technologies named
- Standard grip size
- Right hand only
- Head volume not listed
- Adjustability not described
- Length shown only as a size field
Performance notes
A hybrid's low, wide sole and loft help the ball launch from the fairway and rough, and the face technologies are aimed at ball speed and consistency. The graphite shaft in regular flex suits moderate swing speeds.
