Strollers come with fixed or reversible seats, and some also accept a bassinet or infant car seat. If you want your child to face you, check whether the stroller seat reverses or parent-facing use requires a compatible bassinet or infant car seat.

For a newborn, look for explicit permission in the manual to use the seat from birth, or an approved newborn attachment; a reclining backrest alone is insufficient evidence. For an older child, assess the stated passenger limit alongside the manufacturer’s height limit. Among the 120 products that list weight capacity, most fall between 33 and 80 pounds, and 50 pounds is typical. A higher weight allowance does not necessarily mean a comfortable fit, so assess seat dimensions, headroom and leg support against your child’s size. Verify whether the advertised capacity applies to an individual seat or combines passengers and storage, since a combined allowance cannot tell you how heavy each passenger may be.

Next, decide how often you will lift the stroller into a car or carry it up stairs. Compare its assembled weight with what you can comfortably lift, and look at whether folding requires removing the seat or using both hands; those steps matter when you are also managing a child. For your usual walking route, compare wheel size and suspension: larger wheels can negotiate uneven paving more easily, while smaller wheels may make a folded stroller less bulky. An adjustable handle is worth checking when caregivers differ in height, including whether each can walk comfortably without kicking the rear axle.

Before buying, compare the stroller’s open width with your narrowest doorway and its folded dimensions with the boot or storage space you will use. If you plan to attach a car seat, consult the stroller’s compatibility list for the exact seat and required adapter; the car-seat-compatible filter alone cannot resolve that fit. Establish whether the bassinet, car seat and any required adapters are supplied or sold separately. Material entries such as Polyester and Aluminum do not identify every component, so verify which describe the seat fabric and frame. For food spills and muddy outings, read how the seat cover comes off, whether it can be machine washed, and whether replacement covers and wheels are available.
