Overview
Not an eyepiece telescope, this ZWO Seestar S30 uses a dual-lens system and an app to find, track and photograph targets. It rides on an altazimuth mount and arrives with a tripod and a suitcase.
Automatic star-finding means little setup knowledge is needed, and several shooting modes and filters widen what it can capture. The listing says nothing about battery life or sensor resolution, so those need checking.
Who it's for
A newcomer who wants a compact kit that locates objects and records them by itself. A visual observer who wants an eyepiece view should look at a conventional telescope.
Pros and cons
- Automatic star-finding and tracking
- Tripod and suitcase included
- Multiple filters and shooting modes
- Battery life not listed
- Field of view not listed
- Nonstandard battery type
- Needs a phone or tablet app
Performance notes
The mount finds and follows targets automatically, so tracking error is handled by the electronics rather than by the user. Image quality is governed by the small objective and the length of the exposure, and the app stacks frames to build up faint detail.
