Overview
Mounting a camera behind its quadruplet Petzval optics, this Askar tube is built for astrophotography with SD glass and a flat image field. A protective lens hood and integrated finder bases are part of the body.
A short focal length gives a wide view of big targets, and the self-flattened design needs no extra corrector. The listing names a Plossl eyepiece in one field, which fits oddly beside the camera focus, and gives no aperture or weight.
Who it's for
An astrophotographer with a small mount who wants a light, wide tube. A stargazer who plans to observe by eye should pick a telescope that lists an eyepiece and tripod.
Pros and cons
- Protective lens hood
- Integrated finder bases
- Aperture not listed
- Weight not listed
- Finderscope entry unclear
- Mount not included
Performance notes
The Petzval layout flattens the field so stars stay round to the corners of a sensor, and SD glass limits color fringing. The short tube is forgiving of tracking errors, though a camera and a mount are separate purchases.
