Overview
Folding a long light path into a short tube, this Svbony Maksutov-Cassegrain is sold as a bare optical tube with a dual-speed focuser. A flat-field reducer, dovetail plate and adapters are in the kit.
A long focal length favors lunar, planetary and small target viewing, and the reducer widens the view for imaging. The listing names no eyepiece, finderscope or mount, so those are separate purchases.
Who it's for
A hobbyist with an existing mount and eyepieces who wants high magnification potential in a short tube. A first-time buyer without a mount should choose a full kit.
Pros and cons
- Fully multi coated optics
- Focal reducer included
- Adapters for 1.25 and 2 inch accessories
- Metal objective lens cover
- No eyepiece included
- No mount included
- Narrow field without the reducer
Performance notes
A folded Maksutov-Cassegrain path gives a long focal length in a short tube, which raises magnification for a given eyepiece. The focal reducer shortens that length for a wider view, and dual-speed focusing allows fine adjustment at high power.
